Our service is one that values inclusivity and acceptance of all cultures and beliefs. Nurture@Home has a fundamental value of working together in partnership with family/whānau to meet their aspirations for their children/tamariki.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi Vision in ECE

– Te Tiriti o Waitangi has continued influence on all ECE practice,

– The early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki supports Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a child/tamaiti daily learning,

– Active promotion of biculturalism.

Partnership

This involves working together with IWI, Hapu, family/whānau to establish genuine and strong relationships.

Protection

this means actively protecting interests, language, values, TaonGa/treasures, identity and culture for all. Protecting our own beliefs as well as being open to and engaging in those of others.

Participation

is about equality of opportunity and outcomes. to be involved, participate and explore early awareness, appreciation, and inclusion of diverse beliefs and cultures

What does this look like at Nurture@Home?

– Partnership in the early learning setting

-All cultures are, welcomed valued and respected.

– It is of upmost importance to us that a strong collaboration between our service and all family/whānau is developed.

– Your input, involvement and whānau voice will be heard and incorporated into all decision making for your child’s/tamaiti learning and development programmes and all aspects involving their care.

– We are committed to encouraging ongoing contribution within our partnership to work together.

– By creating a partnership, we are enabling positive relationships that offer children/tamariki a sense of belonging and a strong foundation of which they can learn and succeed. There is a sense of achievement for all when we work in partnership and have a level of consistency between home and early learning environments.

Supporting the cultural needs of your Child/Tamaiti with equity:

– We place a strong focus on including cultural and customary elements taken from parent/whānau voices. For example, we incorporate use of songs, rituals, stories, meals, celebrations and language into our everyday learning.

– We all respect differences and appreciate that each child/tamaiti is unique.

– We are responsive to the needs and beliefs of every person as an individual.

We weave Tikanga Māori practice into our environment.

How do we ensure protection/cultural safety for all children/tamariki at Nurture@Home?

– We recognise that to achieve an equal outcome for all children/tamariki we must particularly value their first language as important. We share in the knowledge that this also includes.

– Treasuring taonga, tikanga, beliefs and stories that hold meaning. We do this by validating, normalising and promoting these within our service at every opportunity.

– We celebrate diversity to increase awareness and acceptance of being a multi-cultural society.

– We empower the children/tamariki to value the cultures of others and that of their own.

– Connecting links with the family and the wider world are affirmed and extended making connections between people, places and things in their world “te waihanga hononga”
