Having a Nanny Educator Work with Your Family

There is something incredibly special about children being able to learn and grow in the comfort of their own home.

For many families, balancing work, school drop-offs, sports, appointments and everything in between can feel like a constant juggling act. That is where having a Nanny Educator can make a world of difference. Rather than trying to fit your family around childcare, a nanny fits around your family’s unique routine.

At Nurture@Home, we know that no two families are the same. Whether you need care for one preschooler or several children, working with a Nanny Educator offers flexibility, consistency and genuine peace of mind.

One of the biggest advantages families tell us about is the "no juggle struggle" mornings

Instead of trying to get everyone dressed, fed and out the door before work, your nanny can arrive at your home and take over the morning routine. They can help children with breakfast, getting dressed, preparing lunches, brushing teeth, packing bags and settling into the day, allowing parents to leave for work knowing everything is under control.

It is a calmer way to begin the day, not only for parents but for children as well

Children thrive when they feel safe, secure and connected with the people caring for them. A nanny provides one consistent caregiver who builds a trusting relationship with your child over time. Your child enjoys all the comforts of home while still benefiting from planned learning experiences, meaningful interactions and opportunities to explore the wider community.

With parental permission, our nannies love taking children on outings to local parks, libraries, playgrounds and community activities. Children can also attend our wonderful Nurture@Home group programme, including Playschool, NatureFocus, community adventures, Gymnastics and other regular events where they can build friendships, develop confidence and enjoy learning alongside other children. Many families say this gives them the best of both worlds. Their child enjoys the security of home while still having regular opportunities to socialise and experience new environments.

Our Nanny Educators are more than just caregivers

While providing quality care and education is always their primary focus, there may be opportunities during naps or quiet periods for a nanny to help with agreed light household tasks. Depending on the family’s arrangement, this could include folding a basket of washing, preparing ingredients for dinner, running the vacuum through the main living areas or tidying children’s spaces. These small contributions can make an enormous difference to busy families returning home after work.

The extra support you need and deserve

Our Nanny Educators hold, or are supported to work towards, an early childhood qualification and maintain a current First Aid certificate. Even better, both you and your nanny are supported by our experienced team of Visiting Teachers. This means nannies and families always have someone to call if you have questions, would like advice or simply want another layer of support throughout your childcare journey.

We believe families deserve to feel supported, not left to figure everything out on their own.

A nanny often becomes an important part of your village

Many of our nanny relationships continue well beyond the preschool years. Older siblings are often included as part of the family’s routine, with some nannies happily dropping children at school, collecting them in the afternoon or caring for everyone together during school holidays.

This continuity can be incredibly reassuring for children, particularly during times of change.

Throughout your child’s time with their nanny, you will receive regular learning stories, photos capturing special moments and a daily diary detailing meals and bottles, sleeps, nappy changes and the activities enjoyed throughout the day. These updates help you feel connected, even while you’re at work.

Families are often surprised to learn how flexible nanny arrangements can be

Hourly rates generally range from $25 to $30 per hour, depending on the nanny’s experience, qualifications, the program required by the family and the number of children being cared for.

Depending on the nature of the arrangement, our Nanny Educators may work as genuinely self-employed contractors and therefore look after their own tax obligations. Other families, particularly those already employing staff through a business, choose to employ their nanny directly. Where direct employment is the most appropriate option, we can support the process and provide employment agreement templates and guidance to help families get started. We will also help families understand which arrangement may be most suitable, although independent employment or legal advice may sometimes be recommended.

Getting started is easy

Our Enquiries Leader will visit your family at home to meet everyone, chat about your childcare needs and complete a simple home safety check as part of the enrolment process. This allows you to ask questions and ensures we can find the right nanny to suit your family’s personality, routines and expectations.

Many families are also eligible for financial assistance that can significantly reduce the cost of employing a nanny.

Children aged three, four and five may be eligible for up to 20 Hours ECE each week, for a maximum of six hours per day. Through Nurture@Home, this funding can help reduce the cost of eligible care hours. We can explain how the funding and any applicable educator top-up payments work for your family.

Some families may also qualify for the Work and Income Childcare Subsidy or Inland Revenue’s FamilyBoost payment, depending on their income, circumstances and eligible childcare costs.

More reasons why...

One of the things we love most about nanny care is that it allows children to follow their own natural rhythm. There is no rushing out the door in the morning, meaning more peaceful and regulated children and parents. Babies can nap when they are tired, toddlers can enjoy uninterrupted play, siblings can stay together and families can create routines that genuinely work for them.

For parents working from home, a nanny also provides the perfect balance. Your children are close by if needed, while still receiving dedicated attention and engaging learning experiences throughout the day.

If you’re wondering what other families think, here’s an example of the kind of feedback we often hear.

“Having a nanny has completely changed our family life. Our mornings are calm; the children are happier and coming home to dinner that has already started, and the washing folded feels like such a gift. Most importantly, our children absolutely adore their Nanny Educator and have formed such a beautiful bond with her.”

At the end of the day, choosing a nanny isn’t simply about childcare. It’s about creating more time together, reducing stress, giving your children consistent loving care and building a trusted relationship with someone who genuinely becomes part of your family’s village.

If you’ve ever wondered whether nanny care could work for your family, we’d love to have a chat. We’d be delighted to answer your questions, explain how it all works and help you explore whether a Nanny Educator could be the perfect fit for your family’s next chapter.
